University of Pennsylvania Model UN Conference

Tomorrow, November 12th, the Coast Guard Academy Model UN team will be traveling to Philadelphia to compete in the University of Pennsylvania Model UN Conference. After weeks of research and preparation, our team is excited for debate to begin.

CGA MUN president, 2/c Dan Cahill, will be representing Thailand on the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural committee. The issues Dan will be debating are: How to deal with an aging global population, and finding a solution to the problem of Female Genital Mutilation.

2/c Greg Bernstein will be representing the Kingdon of Thailand on a historical simulation, "Origins of the Second World War." Greg will be debating the reason international relations fell apart, resulting in the most destructive war the world has ever seen.

3/c Zach Ogden and 4/c Brennan Lee are representing Thailand on the Disarmament and International Security committee. The issues they will be debating are: Illicit transnational small arms trade in Africa and the creation of a Middle-East nuclear weapon free zone.

3/c Bohdon Wowtschuk and 4/c Maksims Sivohins are representing Thailand on the World Health Organization committee. The issues they will be debating are: Human health research in developing countries and the emergence of drug-resistant diseases.

3/c Justin Daniel is representing Thailand on the Special Political and Decolonization committee. The Justin will be debating are: The global water crisis and "Preventing 21st century colonization - A critical look at NGO's."

2/c James Bertram is representing Indonesia on the Ad-Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General. This committe is going to be a simulation of a global summit on the situation in North Korea.
